Candida Thompson and Simone Lamsma explore the path that Arvo Pärt took in his search for his distinctive minimalist style.

Amsterdam Sinfonietta, led by violinists Candida Thompson and Simone Lamsma, explores the journey of discovery that Arvo Pärt embarked upon in his quest for his distinctive minimalist style. During this search, he also studied the work of Bach.

Tabula Rasa is one of the first pieces Pärt wrote in the characteristic minimalist, meditative style for which he has become so famous. "The sounds are there to surround the silence," Pärt said of his tintinnabuli style. Prior to this, Pärt was in a deep crisis. In his quest for a new style, he incorporated other musical styles into collages. In Collage über B-A-C-H, he intertwines phrases from Bach with his own modernist music, resulting in a piece full of tension and contrasting sounds. Bach frames the music of the leader of the new spirituality. Simone Lamsma and Candida Thompson will perform as soloists in the works of these two spiritual masters. Heavenly.

Friday, October 11 at the Music Center in Enschede: Pärt über Bach.
