In 2024, thirty years after the release of the first American Recordings, Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute will bring the most evocative songs from this iconic series to the stage.

Vocalist Elco Weitering says: “The American Recordings led to a reevaluation of artists who are able and daring enough to perform their own work and that of others in a fragile, acoustic version. But it has to be authentic—honest and sincere, otherwise it doesn’t work. ‘From the gut,’ as Johnny would say.”

The songs that The Man in Black delivered with such love and conviction are brought back to life on stage by Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute. The band captures the swing, atmosphere, and rebellion of a performance by the legendary American outlaw with remarkable precision.

By the time of the American Recordings, the glory days of the 1970s were long behind him. The release of these recordings, which resurrected the long-forgotten Cash as a relevant artist, is seen as the crowning achievement of his career. The collaboration and friendship between Rubin and Cash continued until Johnny’s death in 2003.
