"These are themes you may not think about every day, but Liberation Day (in Dutch: Bevrijdingsdag) is the perfect moment to reflect on them."

On Monday, May 5, Freedom Meals will be organized throughout the Netherlands. These meals come in all forms, from small gatherings with local delicacies to elaborate culinary events. In Enschede, a Freedom Lunch will take place at 12:30 PM in the Grote Kerk on the Oude Markt.

A Freedom Meal is a special gathering where guests engage in meaningful conversations about freedom and the lack thereof. "These are themes you may not think about every day, but Liberation Day is the perfect moment to reflect on them," says the Comité 4 en 5 mei, which organizes the event in collaboration with Wilminktheater and Muziekcentrum Enschede.

What does freedom truly mean?

During the lunch, visitors will enjoy a delicious soup with bread while meeting others to discuss the concept of freedom. The Comité 4 en 5 mei poses thought-provoking questions such as: "What does freedom truly mean to you? What do May 4 and 5 represent for you? Is your freedom different from someone else’s? Can there ever be too much freedom? Is freedom only about commemorating war, or does it encompass more? What will freedom mean in the future?" In short, plenty of food for thought and an essential topic to discuss together.

The lunch is free, but reservations are mandatory.
